United Synagogue Youth (USY) is an international organization for Conservative Movement Jewish teens in grades 9-12, sponsored by United Synagogue. There are currently 400 chapters across the United States and Canada, as well as chapters in Israel and Hungary.
The aim of USY is to bring together Judaism, the Jewish people, the synagogue and the Jewish teenager. As a result of this combination, the idea is that Jewish teenagers will become active young adults in their Jewish communities.
On every level, USY has so much to offer. On the chapter level, West Orange USY holds events regularly that range from holiday parties to crazy competitions to bowling and lounge nights. All of our events center around the values of social action, tikkun olam (repairing the world), religion education, and Israel awareness. You can meet new people your age and make the best friends of your high school years and beyond.
On the regional level, B'nai Shalom is part of the Mid-Atlantic District called Hagalil, 1,250 members strong! There are conventions, monthly dances, and our famous end-of-the-summer week-long encampment.
On the national level, the annual international convention, which rotates among major cities around the country, brings together hundreds of teenagers for a solid week of leadership development, Jewish identity building, and FUN.
And the action doesn't stop at the end of the school year. Summer programs include a variety of USY on Wheels programs that travel through the United States, and a number of incredible programs in Israel and Eastern Europe. For high school graduates interested in a gap year before starting college, there is Nativ, where you spend six months attending Hebrew University in Jerusalem and then six months on a kibbutz.
Here's the most important thing. B'nai Shalom has a terrific USY group. Last year we had 18 members and this year we plan to surpass that number. We were also awarded by the region for raising over $1,400 for tikun olam last year alone.
We can become the BEST chapter in all of Hagalil with your help! West Orange USY is open to all high school students who are members of B'nai Shalom, or who belong to a shul without a USY chapter. If you want to sign up or know anyone who might be interested, just send us an email! Additionally, we will soon be selling a reusable discount card for $10, sending all proceeds to tikun olam. To preorder, just send us an email!

Kadima is an international youth organization for Jewish middle school students. Sponsored by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Kadima has so much to offer.
On the chapter level, West Orange Kadima offers a variety of events including holiday parties, crazy competitions, and local trips.
On the regional level, Hagalil offers conventions, dances, and other fun activities throughout the year where ‘Kadimaniks’ meet other pre-teens from all over New Jersey.
Kadima is the perfect environment for young teens to explore their Jewish culture and connect with other teens who share cultural values. Participation in Kadima will broaden a child’s outlook by allowing him/her the opportunity to make Jewish friends, not only in your neighborhood and community, but also all over Northern and Central New Jersey and even beyond. Kadima youth programs teach leadership skills, and will enable the ‘Kadimaniks’ to grow and develop in a unique way, while giving them the opportunity to embrace and more fully understand their Jewish heritage….AND IT’S FUN!!!
For more information about how to join West Orange Kadima, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org! We look forward to hearing from you!
